A scene from “Fight Club” movie

I’ve read a lot of books from Sherlock Holmes to Dale Carnegie. From fiction to non-fiction. And those books made me think how beautiful life is. I remember it was summer 2 months ago when I decided to leave my comfort zone to face a new challenge in a new culture. My ambitious soul felt challenged when I got called into a new job. Now I more farther away from home than in my previous job. But, it’s okay I need to do this for my future.

Now, let’s get back to the topic. Why I’m not worried about being far from home? Because I need to leave my old habits behind. If you want to grow you need to jump out of your comfort zone. I know changes it hurts. But, without pain, we can’t feel the hardest slap in our lives, and that’s how the world works. Same with this book, if we want to have a better life then we should let it go the past behind us.

But, it’s not only the ordinary way to let go and learn from the past we got from this book. We have more knowledge and perspective to let go our things that are not suited for your principal in our life from the people who have passed away. Wait a minute, we learn from the dead people? Not like that, we learn from life that dead people did before. Sounds confusing right? Well, that’s what the book tells about. We learn things from those who, have passed away.

Every person has a different way of living life, and so do we. From this book, we can pick the positive side from them and set up our lives for a better version. Let’s jump into it. Shall we?

1. Every people have their problems

We know that in this world every person has problems. Since we are born until we die we all have it, so don’t be shocked about it. Kim Sae Byul knows how to write this beautifully and is easy to understand for us to read. From this book, we can learn that all of our problems already have solutions. We just find the path to conclude it and don’t rush about it. The hardest problems always have solutions. Sometimes as humans, we can think clearly and only see the negative.

I remember the chapter from this book was telling about the dentist student who suffering about her college and her new life when she move to the big city. A lot of pressure from people, more tasks from lecturer and sometimes parents demands always made us feel the pressure. Finally, she cannot see clearly and can’t find the solutions. The ending is super sad, she decided to end her life and write a letter for her mom.

People nowadays who are suffering mentally can’t find solutions. They mentally get burned and feel more depressed. From point one Kim Sae Byul has a brilliant way of solving problems by having more relationship with the problem and making the problem the enemy. He believes that making problems is a friend of ours we can get to know more about the roots.

2. Love is everything

I learn a lot from this book, especially about love. To keep living our life we need to find love. Love from our lover, love from our job, love from ourselves, and love from small things. The writer knows how love is important to us because without love our minds and hearts can’t have beautiful sparkles in our lives.

Love can be found easily and there are no conditions to have it. I remember the chapter tells about a parent’s love for their children. In this case, the father wants to die alone and sacrifice everything to keep his kid alive freely with their family. The father decided to live alone and didn’t want to bother his son’s family. Every day he feels the pain of his illness and doesn’t want to go to the hospital because he doesn’t want his son to sacrifice his life, from this part, that’s called love.

You can deny me or have another perspective but for me, it’s a parent’s love. A love from a father who doesn’t want to bother his son even though he has sacrificed his old life to raise his son until succeeds. A parent knows that children’s life is more important than the other. An unconditional love from a father that cannot be replaced by others.

I remember the chapter telling about a dog’s love for its owner. When Kim Sae Byul had a job to clean up a suicide place, he found a cute little dog. From the story, the dog waits and stays loyal to his owner until the owner dies. Then Kim Sae Byul remembered his daughter who wanted to have a dog. Then he brought it to his house and gave it to his daughter. A joyful comes when Kim Sae Byul’s family has “Choco” in his house. Everybody loves choco and choco gives joy and happiness around them.

Sadly, choco died and the family accepted it. Choco died after he spread joy and love around his family. From the story, we all know that love gives us hope to bring our life back. What the story means is an unconditional love can increase our happiness and realize that cannot be replaced by anything in this world.

3. More grateful for our life

The last thing I want to share with you about this meaningful book is how important our life is. Life is about finding miracles inside or outside of ourselves. We need to find sparkles to lighten up our lives that become meaningful. Like we help each other, be kind to other people, and also be kind to ourselves.

I wrapped this book into 3 parts that have more impact to begin our meaningful life. More grateful we had, more satisfied, and enough for our life. Life is an unpredictable journey. Ups and downs it happens in life. Rather we surrender or fight for our lives. Life is a choice. Fighting and being human, or surrendering be nothing.

By having a gratitude mindset we can contemplate ourselves and talk into our deep hearts that we should be grateful for what we do in our life. Don’t think about negative words or thoughts that people say about us. Just be grateful for what god has given to us and take the journey easily.

From this book, I learned a lot of things that make my life so meaningful to continue. We learn from the past, learning from hopeless people, learning from what people have given the best for their lives before, and learning that life is a journey to take. Reading Kim Sae Byul’s book reminds me that something beautiful is happening when we fight for our lives. Something that never happened in our life before. Something that god has planned for us.
