Episode 2: The Quest
The things you can see when you know yourself.
Time went so fast in 2019. We have to face new unexpected and unpredictable situations. At that time the world was shocked and chaotic in the beginning. All the people and every component were panicking to set their emergency conditions. It was a big punch for us to remind and realize ourselves. And this was also the growth part of myself.
I remember the day when I did a morning run to the beach and always bring my mini journal book inside my pocket. after a long run, I sat on the side of the dock and I started writing what I want to write about myself and about my goals.
One thing I immediately appreciated about myself is I can go without burden. I can set my life easier so i can direct myself toward my new goals. Check out part 1 here!
“journey of the quest begins” was the chant in my deep heart to myself. I started doing my new habits, healthy habits, and trying to control my own mind.
Learning what we want to learn is super fun. when you get that focus, you always find your true path. When I was traveling to Yogyakarta before I left my comfortable life, there was a man who said to me: “when we fall in love with what we learn, it will lead you to the truth and meaning of life” it hits me a lot.
I take a deep reflection inside myself, totally finding what suits me. Life is balanced. like the positive and negative. Sometimes being a positive person can help us toward ourselves better. but it’s not 100% true. As a human, we should accept our negativity in ourselves. The negativity is like a counterbalance, it balances our positivity. We can’t deny ourselves from being negative. We should feel our negativity so we can respect when we are happy.
On the inside, I was less confident and it was natural.
For the first time in my life, I feel worried about myself. I was totally not fine and faced with serious self-doubt. Doubt around — how I spending my time, what did I do — what should I do next — am I taking the right decision to achieve my goals — and should I hold it up? — doubt even about what I wanted — and did I actually can become successful?
All the emotion gave me more contemplation and emotional grappling, however. But slowly I realize that our life is simply like a movie, we become the directors of our own movies. We can decide what ending we like, and what’s the content of how we choose to live each day. I’m learning now that if it’s a joyful and purposeful life I seek, the most effective way to do that is to pursue joy and purpose every single day.
Action louder than words!
I explored many things that I want to explore and what I want to learn. I’m looking and finding what suits and best for me to achieve my goals. I write them down in my notebook every day to remind me of my goals. But, before we take an action for ourselves, there’s something you can learn about yourself first. The first thing you can learn is how you can manage yourself in this noisy world. Don’t make that serious face…
Here’s the thing, do you realize that actually now we live in a noisy world? the world with superfast about anything and with technology all that concern will be magnified. Sometimes it can make us wonder, why we so easy to get the flow or distracted by all the things we can see clearly. We need to focus on ourselves first before we can spread happiness to others.
Someone said to me that the best investment in our 20s is investing in mind, body, soul, skills, and relationships with people. The way you look at yourself it’s determined the world look at you. I remember when I started reading my first book here, it was a self-reflection book portrayed with poetry by Kahlil Gibran.
It realized that something we go through is based on love. Without love, we can’t accept our life sincerely. Then it relates to my life that I’m seeking what I love for the best version of myself through my daily habits.
Reading Books
The greatest way to make you know your worth is by reading books. Why should read books? Reading books can improve your knowledge better. It can also improve your perspective about anything you can see. Proving your eye-opening through your perspective is incredible. The best solution and also way to invest your time (while you’re young) is by reading books. Reading books can prevent senility in old age. There are many benefits can you get by reading books and many successful people are readers.
By reading books I really enjoy my time to able to know myself to gain more knowledge and perspective about the world. Reading books push me to more develop about what I want to learn for myself — what I want to invest in myself. Because reading books is like printing your own money for the future.
Why I can say that? because it opens your world to know more about anything in this universe. You can manage yourself in books by seeking what’s best and suits you become to be.
Self-Learning is Necessary
You’re the person that you want to be. You have a free role to explore what you want to become and what you want to decide what you’re. Being a learner is for a lifetime and the key for being understand is learning. Self-Learning have huge impact for ourselves. We can control ourselves through what we learn; Reading, watching, acting, thinking, speaking, and emotional. What we learn, what we read, what we watch are determines for ourselves. So, choose wisely what you would to become.
Self-Learning leads us to learn what we want to learn and what we want to give an investment for ourselves in the future. People who like to learn always found lessons in their lives, every day. But people who don’t like learning always find excuses that bring them to self-destruction. Everybody wants to live happily and peacefully right? So, set yourself wisely.
Surround yourself with growth mindset people
This is very important! as a human we are social people. We can’t live without everyone else. Do you want to live alone? i think not. People are different. They have different minds, perspectives, activities, and emotions. With differences, we can learn to be more able to accept ourselves.
Growth mindset people are open to every situation and condition. They are able and available to accept what people give and they can process it into wise perception. Surrounding yourself with growth mindset people will have a huge impact on your life. You can get used to their path and their positivity. It is good for your future life because once you get yourself surrounded by growth people, you can easily find a little purpose and meaning in your every journey to step.
Growth people always find solutions, calmness, and wisdom for every problem they had. They know how to deal with different people, as long as the people want to learn. If not, they are always found grumpy and always feel guilty. Don’t we want a peaceful heart?
Work hard but always calm
This is the right thing you should do. As humans, we always have our own path to growth and processing of our life. Working hard for life is giving us self-motivation to push ourselves to be better people. The key is if we want something to happen in our life, then we should go get it. Go get it with work hard. Working hard while the others are sleeping, working hard while the others are afraid of taking off their comfort zone, and working hard for your family and yourself.
What is the correlation between hard work and staying calm?
As long as humans work continuously, our minds and body will be stressed out. That will bring our minds so crowded and full. Take a deep breath, let the airflow through your mind, and feel it. Feel like yourself floating. Staying calm help and lead us to be more structured in the way we working for. There’s a book that discusses staying calm while the world is noisy and crowded. Like; Ikigai, The things you can see only when you slow down, and How To Love.
We can see deeply about ourselves, we can prepare for what we want to do, we can set our boundaries so as not to make us tired, and we can see people's reactions to their surroundings so we can make wise and proper steps for ourselves by staying calm. It’s not about us feeling apathetic or not caring, but by staying calm we can prevent ourselves to over-react and being reckless. Staying calm is giving us time to think and structure it up so that we can make wise, best, and suit decisions for ourselves.
The Quest is…
It’s about finding yourself through what you believe to do. It doesn’t matter what your journey is going to be, it doesn’t matter how struggling you’re, it doesn’t matter what people talking about you, it doesn’t matter how to speed your way. The matter is you keep continuing, keep trying, and keep processing even if the process is slow and small. But at least you make some progress in your life every day through what you believe. Just trust the process and believe in god.
Your journey will be meaningful if you can enjoy the meaning of your process. You gotta believe that like the way you believe yourself. Growth is painful, but the harder of the battle is the sweetest of victory!
